Why Do I Need it?

Career Management and Coaching

It is true that if you do not know where you are going, you will probably end up someplace that you did not wish to be. Effective career management, at all levels, does not happen by accident. There must be a strategy and plans to make certain that you arrive someplace near where you would like to be at a projected future time. To that extent each of us is the central-most person in assuring that we orchestrate and manage the critical components of our career. We are all leaders challenged to get from whatever our starting point might be to achieving career goals that are the legitimate culmination of our life's energy and work efforts.

Reducing the length of time that the individual is unemployed or not making progress in career advancement is probably the most under recognized lost opportunity in each person's career. Because of this fact individuals can usually find a new job if they work hard at it and long enough, they will eventually find a job. Since this is a fundamental truth, most people can follow bad advice, make countless mistakes, and still eventually find a job. A career objective for each of us should be to find the "right job" in the least time possible. Further, making the same mistakes in managing relationships with supervisor, peers and subordinates, will at least delay if not prevent career advancement. Developing additional strengths in management skills, establishing a winning management style and abilities that promote respect and appreciation and recognition at multiple organizational levels are a must in assuring career advancement opportunities. The loss in terms of income in both situations is easily determined as indicated in the charts below.
